Head of Self Custody, The Bitcoin Way · Netherlands

Bert de Groot heads the self-custody team at The Bitcoin Way and is the founder of Bitcoin Brabant, where he helps individuals, businesses and family offices build their Bitcoin security setup. He also heats greenhouses, workshops, warehouses, offices and homes with Bitcoin mining, using ASIC miners to secure the network and produce heat from surplus or renewable energy that would otherwise go to waste. Notable projects include heating greenhouses for tulip cultivation. Bitcoin Brabant is one of the longest-running and largest Bitcoin-only webshops in the EU, selling hardware wallets, home miners and books for Bitcoin only. Before going full-time into Bitcoin in 2021 he built and sold a bicycle rental business, and earlier worked internationally on port optimisation and robotisation. He holds a Master's degree in Coastal Engineering and Port Development from the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in Delft.
