Þórhildur Sunna Ævarsdóttir

Þórhildur Sunna Ævarsdóttir is a human rights lawyer and Global Director of Courage International, where she leads work to defend press freedom, protect whistleblowers, and advance privacy and information rights. She served eight years as a Member of the Icelandic Parliament for the Pirate Party and represented Iceland at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 2017 to 2024, chairing its Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. She authored the 2024 PACE report that led the Assembly to formally recognise Julian Assange as a political prisoner.
